6 3x3 About Me: Pop Culture Clip Extravaganza

Today's the 4th, so we've got yet another 3x3 that's coming in a day late.
Oh well.

Since Megan posted about her love for musicals this morning, and I've had "Tradition" from Fiddler on the Roof stuck in my head since then,
I decided to make today's theme along the lines of literature/media/pop-culture.
Yeah... I'm not really sure what word groups books, short stories, plays, and musicals together. Oh, and a song.

Anyway.

Favorites
book Lolita, by Vladimir Nabokov
play Equus, by Peter Shaffer
musical Phantom of the Opera, Andrew Lloyd Webber

*No, I do not have strange psycho-sexual issues, Freud.  I enjoy the exploration of the psyche in each; the sympathy for the criminal/underdog/misunderstood.  The book Phantom by Susan Kay re-examines Gaston Leroux's well known antihero, and is a must-read for any fan of the tale.

Most Commonly Quoted in Our House
SNL: The Best of Mike Myers
I can't find any great links, but particularly the "Hyper Hypo" and "Coffee Talk"

10 Things I Hate About You (me) and Arrested Development (Paul)
Neither of us particularly like the other's, but we've each had to sit through them enough times (ahh, love!) that the quotes are all understood.

Paul often compares Max to Buster (with me as Lucille Bluth), especially the "Sister's my new mother, Mother," since we frequently call the dogs "Sister" and "Brother."

Nearly all of the sound bites used frequently on The Soup between 2006-2009

Okay, so neither of us say this one a lot ever, but it's funny!

Endings I Have Unpopular Views About
"Space Oddity" by David Bowie
(I think Major Tom dies. This is a recurring theme.)

The Giver, by Lois Lowry
(I think Jonas and Gabriel die, but it's a 'happy' death, because they've realized their humanity.)

The Cold Equations, by Tom Godwin
(This one has a specific ending, but in high school one year we had to write an alternate ending. I killed them both. I still have it, if anyone is interested. nerd)

Now that you know all this, and think I'm a sexual-deviant-sympathizing, fictional-character-killing crazy person, maybe I'll see you back here tomorrow?
maybe?

  1. One of my best friends adores Arrested Development and him and I watched the entire series together. As well as endless quotes, there are so many things that I can't see in the same way anymore, without bursting into giggles. Segways (ok...those were funny before), the Final Countdown song, showhome furniture, ads for Tractor Pulls, vehicles with stairs attached to them...

I'll also agree with you that 10 Things I Hate About You is great - I still blast it for housecleaning inspiration every so often!

Sounds like you and Paul have a lot of fun!

  2. I'd have to say our #1 quoted is probably the Simpsons. What? They are wise. ;)
I thought about the song when I read Megan's post, too!

  3. I thought the same thing after Megan's post! Couldn't get it out of my head, and I don't like that song. Ha!
