2 Farm Delivery Friday: May 25

We got a doozy of a delivery this week. Not only is it actually summer-like weather here, which always inspires lighter-food fare for me, but I'm also hosting my group of friends' monthly movie night tomorrow, and Paul's making us pizza dough and sauce for homemade pizzas,  so that means lots of tasty ingredients for toppings!
Fun fact: I'm the one person on earth who doesn't really like pizza, so I usually make baked potato pizza...
I feel a post on that coming!
As usual, delivery is by Riverford!

Buffalo mozzarella (fresh), halloumi cheese, 2L skimmed milk, Glastonbury smoked cheddar cheese

 Cucumbers, carrots, courgettes, asparagus
True story: I get rather intense nose-pain every time I eat asparagus, ever since an unfortunate nasal-stabbing by plastic asparagus I suffered whilst babysitting in high school. I did have some tasty asparagus a couple of weeks ago, though, so I'm going to try to eat it again.

celery, calebrese broccoli, red and green bell peppers, wet garlic

 Rhubarb, blueberries

 Potatoes, shitake mushrooms, fresh parmesan

 baby spinach and salad packs

 fresh parsley and thyme

Chopped pork, minced beef (ground beef), half a chicken

I only eat chicken and fish, but Paul still likes his pork and beef, so I try to encourage him (and he does seem to prefer it, given the choice) to only buy ethical meat.  Riverford has had meat for a while, and it's all organic and ethically raised and slaughtered, which is something I can get behind.  We've never bought any before, though, because the minimum meat order was too much for our house, especially with our tiny freezer! Well, they just came out with "meat and veg boxes", so I decided to get one.  I'm excited to make either barbecue or soup with the chicken, and Paul's plotting things for the pork and beef- although he's currently devouring homemade pulled pork that he bought the meat for at Paxton's, our local farm shop!  Paul loves being able to order a special cut of shoulder from Paxton's, since the cut best used for pulled pork isn't a traditional cut here!

I hope your weekend is wonderful, either as a three-day Memorial Day Weekend in the States or enjoying this gorgeous sunshine and warmth we're getting here in Britain- see you next week!

  1. Hello rhubarb!
We're also having a lot of asparagus at the moment, dipped in our hens' eggs (for breakfast, lunch, and supper... pretty much).
    Ah, the good life :-)

p.s. baked potato pizza? I'm intrigued...

  2. That ASPARAGUS is huge. I love asparagus. You should eat it. You too will love it.

I love that you buy ethical meat. This is something I really want to do. I just recently started eating some meat again after a year of vegetarianism - but I really would feel better making/buying smarter options.

    Thanks for the reminder.
