0 Bulgaria: Statues of Sofia

Lion statues flank the stairs of the Department of Justice.

St. Sofia statue.

Another lion.

Brother Cyril and Methodius, two teachers.  One of their students was the first to record the Cyrillic alphabet.

Tsar Alexander II of Russia.  He is credited with freeing the Bulgarians from 500 years of Ottoman rule.

Soviet Army Monument, in a large park called Borisova gradina.

Statue of Stefan Stambolov- he was killed with an axe to the head, as his statue represents.  This giant head only added to my "Wizard of Oz" theme of Sofia.
